Since our founding in 2014, the Pine Castle Historical Society has received a very interesting collection of important artifacts related to Historic Pine Castle. A few of these items are temporarily housed in the Ann & Larry White House; some are in a rented air-conditioned storage facility; and most are still in their original homes waiting for the Crawford House to be restored as a house museum showing what country life was like in Orange County 100 years ago.
Several of our most important artifacts are shown below: a chair once owned by Corinne Bowstead, the grandmother of former Mayor of Orlando, Glenda Hood; a chair from the pioneer Jernigan family, a model of “the” Pine Castle built in 1974, a large collection of period costumes donated by Texann Ivy Buck, a handsome grandfather’s clock built by the grandfather of local realtor Pete Vogt; an organ donated by Shirley Cannon; a cradle from the log cabin which used to be on the property which is now Cornerstone Charter School; a floor loom and weaving tools from the former Pine Castle Center of the Arts; a loveseat from the old Kissimmee Hotel; and a handmade “pie safe” from the Jernigan family.
Smaller items include a large collection of household tools from Blanch Cannon; a collection of farm tools from former Edgewood Mayor Jerry Kinsley; a “candlestick” telephone from Corinne Bowstead; assorted china from Pine Castle families; all of the photographs and memorabilia saved by principals of the 140 year old Pine Castle School; articles and maps the community of Sky Lake, donated by Harriett Lake; several boxes of local memorabilia donated by local families with ties to Pine Castle’s earliest days.
